Director of Contracting – Mental Health

We are currently seeking an experienced and strategic **Director of Contracting** to lead our contracting efforts with payers, vendors, and other stakeholders in the mental health space. This key leadership role will ensure that our contracting processes align with organizational goals, maximize reimbursement opportunities, and comply with regulatory requirements.

Position Overview:

The Director of Contracting for Mental Health will oversee the development, negotiation, and management of all contracts related to mental health services. This includes building and maintaining relationships with insurance companies, government agencies, and other critical partners to optimize the financial and operational performance of the organization’s mental health programs.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the development, negotiation, and execution of contracts with commercial insurers, government programs (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare), and other third-party payers for mental health services.  
  • Review and manage existing contracts to ensure compliance with terms and identify opportunities to improve contract terms and reimbursement rates.  
  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with payer organizations, healthcare providers, and key stakeholders to support mental health service delivery.  
  • Analyze payer trends, market changes, and regulatory requirements to inform contracting strategies and ensure competitive positioning.  
  • Work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and legal teams to assess the impact of contracting decisions on the organization’s financial health.  
  • Monitor performance metrics for contracted services and provide recommendations to improve outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.  
  • Ensure contracts comply with state and federal regulations related to mental health services, including privacy, quality standards, and reimbursement practices.  
  • Lead the team in ongoing contract review processes, preparing reports and recommendations for senior leadership.  
  • Stay informed of evolving regulations, industry standards, and best practices in mental health contracting.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).  
  • At least 7 years of experience in healthcare contracting, with a focus on mental health services or behavioral health.  
  • Strong understanding of mental health service reimbursement models and government programs such as Medicaid and Medicare.  
  • Proven success in negotiating contracts with insurers, government entities, and third-party vendors.  
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial and contractual data.  
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.  
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance, particularly as they relate to mental health services.
